Date: Sunday April 28, 2019, Tickets: $30. Purchase through the MCPC.

Vincent Simeone is an expert horticulturist and Director at the Planting Fields Arboretum State Historic Park in Long Island. He has been in horticulture for over 27 years; his past experience includes working with well-known Dr. Michael Dirr and Dr. Allan Armitage, teaching classes at the New York Botanical Garden, giving garden lectures all over the world, and writing several books on landscaping and smart plant choices.

Enjoy a fascinating lecture as he shares his expertise in planting and caring for viburnums and take a guided walk through the viburnum collection at Willowwood. Two of the signature Blackhaw viburnums (Viburnum prunifolium) were planted in 1912 on either side of the Tubbs House back porch by the entrance to Pans Garden and are still alive and well today! A full list of Viburnums currently at Willowwood are listed on www.willowwoodarboretum.org.

The Tubbs brothers were passionate about plants. In 1908 they purchased the property that would become the Willowwood Arboretum. Over the next 50 years, as avid plant collectors along with adopted son Dr. Benjamin Blackburn, they corresponded with several noteworthy plant explorers, including Ernest H. (Chinese) Wilson and received and exchanged seeds and plants from various expeditions to transform Willowwood’s 120+ acres into a horticultural showcase containing over 2,000 species of native and exotic plants. Viburnums, one of 9 key genera in the WW collection with their attractive size, fragrant bloom and fruit, were special favorites of the Tubbs.
