Willowwood features numerous azaleas & rhododendrons, including the Lois Poinier Collection of Glendale Azaleas.
Mrs. Lois Poinier donated many Glendale Azaleas from her collection to both the Frelinghuysen and Willowwood Arboreta when she moved from her home in Chester Township several years ago. She visited the Willowwood Arboretum this Spring (2012) to see her plants, now grown and in bloom. Mrs. Poinier was a noted local landscape designer who worked with her mother Helen Page Wodell who was well known for her lovely garden designs in the Short Hills area.
The following is a list of plants from Mrs. Poinier’s garden currently thriving at Willowwood: Rhododendron ‘Achorite’ and Rhododendron ‘Acrobat’, ‘Antique’, ‘Aphrodite’, ‘Bonanza’, ‘Bopeep’, ‘Cadenza’, ‘Dandy’, ‘Dayspring’, ‘Delilah’, ‘Angela Place’, ‘Dimity’, ‘Guy Yerkes’, ‘Kehr’s White Ruffles’, ‘Lenape’, ‘Lizette’, ‘Madcap’, ‘Marmora’, ‘Mavourneen’, ‘Moonbeam’, ‘Mother of Pearl’, ‘Polar Sea’, ‘Rosemary Annette’, ‘Sarabande’, ‘Schroeder’s Pink Glass’, ‘Snowscape’, ‘Winedrop’, ‘Winterthur’s Hinomayo’ and ‘Wyanokie.’
